Steering wheel (with air cushion) — removal and installation (Opel Vectra A)

Warning: Please see warnings at the beginning before proceeding Chapters 55.

Removal

1. Remove the air bag unit as described previously.

2. Make sure the steering wheel is in the straight ahead position.

3. In the center of the steering wheel, unscrew the two screws securing the air bag unit.

4. Using a screwdriver, push back the tabs on the lock washer securing the steering wheel mounting nut.

5. Loosen and remove the steering wheel mounting nut and lock washer.

6. Make alignment marks between the steering wheel and the end of the steering column.

7. Install a small two-pronged puller onto the steering wheel to remove it from the shaft.

8. Disconnect the horn wiring and remove the steering wheel.

Installation

9. When installing the steering wheel on the steering column shaft, check that the marks made during removal are aligned.

10. Reconnect the horn wiring.

11. Install the lock washer and steering wheel mounting nut. Tighten the nut to the specified tightening torque Specifications.

12. Install the two screws securing the air spring contact block.

13. Install the air spring as described previously.
