System type
Models without ABS:
- Models 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8 l — Hydraulic, with two diagonal circuits and a vacuum booster, pressure control valves are installed in the rear part of the circuits. Front disc brakes, rear drum brakes. A handbrake, controlled by a cable, is installed on the rear wheels.
- 2.0 l models - Hydraulic, with two diagonal circuits and a vacuum booster, pressure control valves are installed in the rear part of the circuits. Front and rear disc brakes. A handbrake, controlled by a cable, is installed on the rear wheels.
- All models with anti-lock braking system (ABS) - Hydraulic, with two parallel circuits (front and back) and a vacuum booster operating via a hydraulic modulator, pressure control valves are installed in the rear circuit. Front and rear disc brakes. A cable-controlled handbrake is installed on the rear wheels.
Front brake discs
Type:
- Models 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8 l - Solid or ventilated (since October 1991.)
- 2.0L Models - Ventilated
Diameter:
- Models 1.4, 1.6 and early 1.8 l - 236 mm
- Late models 1.8L (since October 1991.) and 2.0 l models - 256 mm
Maximum disc runout (all models) — 0.1 mm
Minimum brake pad thickness (including metal base):
- All models - 7.0 mm
Minimum disc thickness after resharpening: *
- Models 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8 l (with solid disks) — 10.7 mm
- Models 1.4, 1.6 and 1.8 l (with ventilated discs) — 18.0 mm
- 2.0L models - 22.0mm
*Once this thickness is reached, only one more set of brake pads can be used, then the discs must be replaced
Rear brake discs

Minimum brake pad thickness (including metal base):
- All models - 7.0 mm
Minimum disc thickness after resharpening (all models)* — 8.0 mm
*Once this thickness is reached, only one more set of brake pads can be used, then the discs must be replaced.
Minimum thickness of brake lining of handbrake shoe (only overlay).
- All models - 1.0 mm
Rear brake drums
- Inner diameter (all models) — 200 mm
- Minimum brake pad thickness (all models) — 0.5 mm above the rivet heads.
