2. Working on the first valve, install the spring seat. Dip a new valve stem seal into the engine oil, then carefully slide it over the valve stem onto the guide. Use a suitable socket or metal tube to seat the cap on the rail (see illustrations).
3. Install the spring on the support, then the support cup (see illustration).
4. Compress the spring, insert the crackers into the recess in the stem (see illustration). Release the puller, then repeat the procedure on the remaining valves.
5. After installing the valves, strike the end of the stem of each valve with a hammer through a block of wood to settle the position of the components.
6. On 4-cylinder engines, proceed as described in Parts A, install the cylinder head, then install the tappets and camshafts.
7. On 6-cylinder engines, proceed as described in Part B, install the cylinder head to the engine, then install the tappets and camshafts.
