
2. Working on the first valve, install the spring support. Dip the new valve stem seal in engine oil, then carefully push it through the valve stem onto the guide. Use a suitable socket or metal tube to seat the seal onto the guide (see illustrations).




3. Install the spring on the support, then the support cup (see illustration).

4. Compress the spring, insert the crackers into the recess in the rod (see illustration). Release the puller, then repeat the procedure on the remaining valves.

5. After installing the valves, use a hammer through a wooden block to hit the end of each valve stem to adjust the position of the components.
6. On 4-cylinder engines, proceed as described in Parts A, install the cylinder head, then install the tappets and camshafts.
7. On 6-cylinder engines, proceed as described in Parts B, install the cylinder head on the engine, then install the tappets and camshafts.
