1. Remove the final drive mechanism as described in Chapter 3.
2. Clamp the block in a vise.
3. Mark the position of the drive flange nut in relation to the flange and gear.
4. Secure the actuator flange by bolting a piece of metal rod to it, then loosen the nut by counting the exact number of turns before removal.
5. Using a suitable extractor, pull the drive flange out of the gear.
6. Pry the oil seal out of the final drive housing with a screwdriver. Wipe off the bearing surface of the seal.
7. Lubricate the new packing lug, then insert it straight into the body.
8. Place the drive flange on the pinion in the home position, install the nut.
9. To check that the final drive bearings are correctly positioned, check that the drive flange torque is 90-120 Nm. To do this, install a socket on the gear nut and check the torque with a special meter.
10. Install the final drive mechanism as described in Chapter 3.
