Final Drive Gear Seal — Replacement (Opel Omega A)

1. Remove the final drive mechanism as described in Chapter 3.

2. Clamp the block in a vice.

3. Mark the position of the drive flange nut relative to the flange and gear.

4. Secure the drive flange by bolting a piece of metal rod to it, then loosen the nut, counting the exact number of turns before removing it.

5. Using a suitable extractor, pull the drive flange out of the pinion.



6. Lift the seal from the main gear housing with a screwdriver. Wipe the seal support surface.

7. Lubricate the seal lip of the new oil seal, then insert it straight into the housing.

8. Place the drive flange on the gear in the main position, install the nut.

9. To check that the main gear bearings are correctly positioned, check that the drive flange torque is 90-120 Nm. To do this, install a socket on the pinion nut and check the torque with a special meter.
