The final drive mechanism is mounted on the rear suspension crossmember. The rubber that dampens the block attached to the rear of the final drive mechanism is also a cushion for the rear suspension crossmember. Two drive shafts transmit rotation from the final drive differential to the rear wheels, which are mounted on a fully independent rear suspension.
A limited slip differential can be installed on new vehicles or can be installed later during a rebuild, but it requires special tools and the existing crown wheel must be heated to a certain temperature before bolting. Because of this, the procedure is not covered in this Section. The procedure for overhauling the final drive differential is also not covered.
