2. Use a small drift to knock the top metal cover off the outer joint.
3. Loosen and remove both brackets from the rubber boots.
4. Remove covers from a power shaft.
5. Remove grease from the joint and wipe off the drive shaft.
6. Use pliers to remove the circlip from the outer end of the drive shaft.
7. Secure the outer joint in a vise, then drive the drive shaft out of it.
8. Fill the internal connection with the specified type of grease using a wooden spatula.
9. Install the new inner boot, check that it is not twisted, then install and tighten the brackets.
10. Place the outer boot on the drive shaft.
11. Install the outer CV joint.
12. Install the retaining ring, making sure it is fully seated in the groove.
13. Use a wooden spatula to fill the outer joint with grease.
14. Place the outer boots on the plate, check that they are not twisted, then install and tighten the brackets.
15. Position the cover on the joint using the two drive shaft bolts to ensure proper alignment. Hit the cover on the joint with a mallet.
16. Remove the retaining ring from the inner edge of the drive shaft and install a new one.
17. Install the drive shaft as described in Chapter 8.
