2. On fuel injected models, disconnect the inner cable from the ball joint. Squeeze the plastic hanger and remove the cable cover from the hanger (photo).
3. Cut the transmission fluid filler pipe retaining strap.
4. Jack up the front of the car, secure it on axle stands.
5. Place a container under the transmission pan, unscrew the plug and drain the fluid. Finally, install and tighten the plug.
6. Unscrew and remove the transmission pan, remove the filter tube and connection.
7. From a piece of wire, make a tool according to the dimensions shown in Fig. 6.15. Rotate the bent disc with this tool until the cable disengages.
8. Disconnect and remove the kickdown cable.
9. Attach the new cable to the transmission fluid filler pipe with a belt.
10. Lightly lubricate the cable seal.
11. Connect the cable to the bent disc using a piece of wire. Check that the cable moves the disc easily.
12. Adjust the cable as described in Chapter 16, connect the upper end of the cable.
13. Install the transmission pan using a new joint and O-ring and tighten the pan bolts.
14. On carbureted models, install the air filter.
15. Lower the vehicle to the ground.
16. Fill the transmission with the specified amount of fluid as described in Chapter 2.
