2. On fuel injected models, disconnect the inner cable from the ball joint. Squeeze the plastic hanger and remove the cable housing from the hanger (photo).

3. Cut the transmission fluid filler tube retaining strap.
4. Jack up the front of the car and secure it on axle supports.
5. Place a container under the transmission pan, unscrew the plug and drain the fluid. Finally, install and tighten the plug.
6. Unscrew and remove the transmission pan, remove the filter pipe and connection.
7. From a piece of wire, make a tool with the dimensions shown in Figure 6.15. With this tool, turn the curved disk until the cable is disconnected.
8. Disconnect and remove the kickdown cable.
9. Attach the new cable to the transmission fluid filler tube with a strap.
10. Lightly lubricate the cable seal.
11. Connect the cable to the curved disc using a piece of wire. Check that the cable moves the disc easily.
12. Adjust the cable as described in Chapter 16, connect the upper end of the cable.
13. Install the transmission pan using a new union and O-ring and tighten the pan bolts.
14. On carbureted models, install the air filter.
15. Lower the car to the ground.
16. Fill the transmission with the specified amount of fluid as described in Chapter 2.
