Checking the Fluid Level in an Automatic Transmission
8. Park the vehicle on level ground. Engine running, brakes applied, Move selector lever through all positions, ending at «R» (A park).
9. With engine idling and transmission in position «R», remove the dipstick, wipe it off, then insert and remove it again. Check fluid level.
10. If the engine and transmission are hot (after running at least 20 km) the liquid level should be marked between MIN and MAX on the side of the dipstick marked «90°C» (photo). The amount of fluid required to raise the level from MIN to MAX is approximately 0.6 liters. If the engine and transmission are cold, the fluid level should be up to the line on the side of the dipstick marked «20°C».
11. If necessary, top up with the specified fluid through the dipstick tube (photo). Be careful not to allow dust or dirt to enter the pipe.
12. Install the dipstick, turn off the engine.
Changing automatic transmission fluid
13. Place the car over the inspection hole or jack up the front of the car and fix it on axle stands. It is also recommended that the transmission fluid filter be cleaned when changing the transmission fluid. See Section 13 for further information.
14. Place a container under the transmission pan, then unscrew the plug and drain all the fluid.
Warning: If the vehicle has just been driven, the fluid is likely to be extremely hot, use caution.
15. Replace the seal if necessary, then install and tighten the drain plug.
16. Lower the vehicle to the ground. Fill the transmission with the correct amount of the specified fluid through the dipstick tube.
17. Check fluid level as previously described.
