
P = parking
R = reverse
N = neutral position (idling)
The engine can only be started in position P or N.
To engage the P or R positions, pull the lever
- R: Pre-apply the parking brake
- R: only when the vehicle is completely stopped

D = gears 1st to 4th
D and S = gears 1st through 4th (sport type of movement)
3 = gears 1st to 3rd
2 = gears 1st to 2nd
1 = 1st gear.
3rd, 2nd or 1st gears are used when unwanted gear changes are required, such as 4-3-4... on streets with many turns. On downhill slopes to use engine braking.

Lock against accidental activation of positions P, R, 3, 2 or 1.
Pull out the handle under the shift lever:
- 3: to the point of pressure
- 2, R: above the pressure point
- 1, P: above the pressure point until it stops
When switching from 1 to N or from R to D, do not pull out the handle.
