P = parking
R = reverse
N = neutral position (idling)
The engine can only be started in position P or N.
Pull lever to engage P or R
- P: Pre-apply parking brake
- R: only when the vehicle is at a complete stop
D = gears 1st to 4th
D and S = gears 1st to 4th (sports type of movement)
3 = gears 1st to 3rd
2 = gears 1st to 2nd
1 = 1st gear.
3rd, 2nd or 1st gears are used for unwanted gear changes, eg 4-3-4... on streets with a lot of turns. On descents to use engine braking.
Locking against accidental activation of positions P, R, 3, 2 or 1.
Pull out the handle under the shift lever:
- 3: to the point of pressure
- 2, R: above pressure point
- 1, P: above the pressing point to the stop
When switching from 1 to N or from R to D, do not pull out the handle.
