Disassembling the differential (Opel Kadett E)

Remove the differential cover.

Mark the position of the differential box bearing adjusting nut relative to the gearbox housing and, by moving the differential box manually, check the axial clearance of its bearings.

Remove the locking plate and unscrew the differential box bearing preload adjusting nut using the KM 520 tool.

After unscrewing the mounting bolts, remove the differential box bearing flange.

Remove the differential.

Using the KM 466 3 and KM 466 2 mandrels, press out the seals from the adjusting nut and the differential box bearing flange.

Press out the outer rings of the differential box bearings from the flange and adjusting nut using the KM 304, KM 451 mandrels and the KM 502 support ring.

Use a chisel to cut the speedometer drive pinion and remove it.

Press the inner races of the tapered roller bearings off the differential box using a puller.

Loosen the bolts securing the driven gear of the main transmission to the differential box and press it out with a hammer through a brass drift.

Loosen the satellite axle lock bolt and knock out the axle.

Turn the satellites and half-axle gears to remove them from the differential box, then remove the thrust washers.
