Removing
Remove shock absorber.
Attention: When disassembling the rack, the spring must be compressed. Never disassemble the strut without compressing the spring.
Compress the spring with a special tool.
OPEL workshops use KM-329, KM-465 and KM-465-1 compressors for this.
Attention: Make sure that the hooks hook the spring well and do not break off. Compress the spring from two opposite sides. Use only a special serviceable tool. Never tie the spring with wire.
Unscrew the thrust ball bearing with a bent box wrench while holding the hexagon wrench with the socket wrench. For unscrewing, use a box wrench with a bending depth of 19 mm.
Remove the thrust bearing assembly with ball bearing from the damper rod.
Attention: If you need to change the spring, then unclench it. If you need to change the shock absorber, the spring remains compressed.
Installation
Caution: On the same axle, replace both springs together.
Put a new spring on the suspension strut and compress it. The end of the spring should enter the stop of the lower cup.
Install the damping ring for the spring.
Install the upper spring plate so that the punched hole with a diameter of 5 mm (mounting marking) placed against the hole of the steering knuckle hub (black arrow).
Lubricate the ball bearing with grease. The thrust bearing is only supplied with a ball bearing.
Attention: The structure must not be disassembled.
Put on the thrust bearing but the shock absorber rod. Position the flat cup -A- with the edges up under the ball bearing and the washer -B- above the ball bearing.
Tighten the new self-locking thrust bearing nut to 55 Nm while holding the damper rod.
Expand the spring.
Install shock absorber.
