Attention: Fichtel &Sachs shock absorbers as well as Delko Products shock absorbers can be installed. When replacing a shock absorber, the new shock absorber must be of the same brand and have the same letter designations as the old one. The letter designations can be seen after removing the cap from the support with the Delko shock strut installed on the side surface of the hex of the shock absorber rod using a Fichtel &Suchs regular wrench on the end surface of the internal hex of the shock absorber rod.
Removing
Remove shock absorber see point 12.1.
Remove the front spring thrust bearing see point 12.2.
Attention: When removing the hydraulic shock absorber, the spring remains compressed.
Remove the support cup with the ring from the shock absorber rod, the compression stroke buffer with a polymer protective cover.
Unscrew the nut from the shock absorber support bar using KM-331 tool.
Caution: The nut is over tightened. If a special tool is not at hand, then loosen the spring and unscrew the nut with the appropriate wrench.
Pull the shock absorber out of the strut.
Installation
Before installation, check the stem, see point 12.4.
Caution: Use a new nut to fasten the shock absorber cartridge. When installing a new shock absorber cartridge, the nut is included. The new nut is waxed. Do not remove the wax, it serves as a lubricant and anti-corrosion agent.
Install shock absorber and secure with a new nut to 200 Nm. Be sure to observe the torque value.
Put on the piston stroke buffer with a polymer shell.
Fit spring damping ring.
Install the upper support cup so that the hole with a diameter of 5 mm (installation aptly) was directed to the opposite side of the steering knuckle hub. See fig. A9718. Install thrust bearing see point 12.2.
Install suspension strut see point 12.1.
