Note: On cars from year 04 with ESP - after each battery disconnection the steering wheel angle sensor loses its basic setting. It needs to be recalibrated.


Removal



Open the hood.

Disconnect the battery terminals.

Disconnect the ground wire.

Remove the suction pipe 4.

Unscrew 2 nuts.

Disconnect the engine crankcase ventilation hose from the cylinder head cover 5.

On the Z10XEP engine, remove the air intake hose.

Release the clamp.

Disconnect 2 wiring harness connectors - hot-film air flow meter 2, tank ventilation valve 1.

Remove the hot film air flow meter 3.



Release 2 clamps.

Release 2 clamps.


Disconnect engine crankcase ventilation hose 1 from the cylinder head cover.

Disconnect the 4 engine management system wiring harness connectors.

Disconnect throttle module 2, fuel injectors 3.

On the Z 10 XEP engine: remove the fuel rail housing.

On the Z 10 XEP engine: remove the fuel rail housing.


Unscrew the 2 mounting bolts.

Note: Please take into account safety regulations and laws in force in your country.


Reduce fuel pressure using pressure gauge KM-J-34730-91.

Unscrew the protective cap of the control nipple 2 on the fuel distributor pipe 1.

Note: The test nipple on the Z 10 XEP engine is located on the top of the fuel distributor pipe.


Remove fuel line 2 using tool KM-796-A.

Release the fuel line.

Close with KM-807 tool.

Remove the throttle module.



Note: The cooling system must remain closed.


Unscrew the 4 mounting bolts 1.

Remove the fuel distributor pipe 3.

Unscrew the 2 mounting bolts.

Unscrew the 2 mounting bolts.


Remove 3 fuel injectors.

Remove 3 retaining clips 2.

Replace 6 fuel injector seals 1.

Replace 6 fuel injector seals 1.


Installation



Clean the sealing surfaces of the intake manifold and throttle module.

Install the fuel injectors.

Insert the fuel injectors.

Install the locking clips.

Note: Observe the installation position. The groove in the retaining clip must engage with the projection of the fuel injector (arrow).


Install the fuel rail.

Tighten the 2 mounting bolts to 6 Nm.

Install the throttle module.

Replace the seal.

Tighten the 4 mounting bolts to 7 Nm.

Install the fuel line.

Remove the KM-807 tool.



Install the fuel line.

Note: The connection should click into place.


Secure the fuel line.

Connect the 4 engine management system wire harness connectors.

Connect the 4 engine management system wire harness connectors.


On the Z 10 XEP engine: Install the fuel rail housing.

Tighten the 2 mounting bolts.

Install the engine crankcase ventilation hose.

Secure the clamp.

Install the suction pipe.

Install a hot-film mass air flow meter.

Secure 2 clamps.

Connect 2 wire harness connectors, hot film mass air flow meter, tank vent valve.

On the Z 10 XEP engine: Install the air intake hose.

Tighten the clamp to a torque of 3.5 Nm.

Install the engine crankcase ventilation hose.

Tighten the 2 mounting nuts to 8 Nm.

Connect the battery terminals.

Calibrate the steering wheel angle sensor.

Turn on the ignition.

Turn the steering wheel once from the right extreme position to the left extreme position.

Program volatile memory.

Close the hood.
