Removal
Models with manual transmission
1. Remove the transmission (see Chapter Manual 5-speed gearbox or Automatic 4-speed transmission) and clutch (see Chapter Clutch and drive shafts).
2. Using a suitable device, block the flywheel from turning. Mark the position of the flywheel relative to the crankshaft with paint or a marker.
Flywheel lock
3. Unscrew the mounting bolts and remove the flywheel - if necessary, use the help of an assistant, as the flywheel is quite heavy.
Models with AT
1. Remove the transmission (see Chapter Manual 5-speed gearbox or Automatic 4-speed transmission).
2. Using a suitable device, lock the drive disc.
3. Remove the retaining bolts and remove the retaining plate and drive disc from the crankshaft flange, making sure to note the installation position of the components.
Examination
1. Inspect the flywheel/drive plate for signs of wear or chipped ring teeth.
2. Examine the condition of the flywheel working surface that contacts the clutch disc. If deep grooves or scoring are detected, the flywheel can be given a turn, but it would be wiser to replace it.
3. If you are not sure about the condition of the flywheel, seek advice from car service specialists, or better yet, replace the flywheel.
Installation
Models with manual transmission
New flywheel mounting bolts will be required.
1. Clean the mating surfaces of the flywheel and crankshaft - make sure that the threaded holes in the shaft flange are completely clear of traces of old sealant.
2. Lubricate the threaded portion of the mounting bolts with a locking sealant, install the flywheel and secure it with bolts. When installing a used flywheel, ensure that the mounting marks applied during dismantling are correctly aligned.
3. Lock the flywheel using the method used during removal. Tighten all bolts evenly in a diagonal pattern in several steps to the required torque.
4. Install the clutch (see Chapter Clutch and drive shafts). Remove the flywheel locking device and install the transmission (see Chapter Manual 5-speed gearbox or Automatic 4-speed transmission).
Models with AT
1. Clean the mating surfaces of the drive disk and crankshaft - make sure that the threaded holes in the shaft flange are completely clear of traces of old sealant.
2. Lubricate the threaded portion of the mounting bolts with a locking sealant, install the drive disc with the locking plate and secure the components with bolts. When installing a used drive disc, ensure that the mounting marks made during dismantling are correctly aligned.
3. Lock the drive disc using the method used during removal. Tighten all bolts evenly in a diagonal pattern in several steps to the required torque.
4. Install the clutch (see Chapter Clutch and drive shafts). Remove the drive disk locking device and install the transmission (see Chapter Manual 5-speed gearbox or Automatic 4-speed transmission).
