Replacing lamps (Opel Astra J)

To replace lamps headlights perform the following operations.

Note: Shown is replacement of the left headlight bulbs. The bulbs in the right headlight are located symmetrically and are replaced in the same way.


1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

Note: The process of removing the covers and replacing the low beam, high beam and daytime driving lights is shown below for clarity on a removed headlight.

2. To replace the low beam bulb, turn counterclockwise…

4. …and disconnect the connector from the lamp base.

5. Using a TORX T20 key, unscrew the two bolts securing the lamp holder…

7. Remove the low beam bulb.

Warning! Do not touch the bulb with your fingers, as the halogen bulb gets very hot and greasy stains will cause the bulb to darken. Only handle the bulb with clean gloves or a clean cloth. If stains still remain on the bulb, remove them with alcohol.




8. Insert the new bulb into the reflector and secure with the holder.

9. Replace the cover.

10. To replace the high beam bulb, turn counterclockwise and remove the cover.

11. Using a TORX T20 key, loosen the lamp holder mounting bolt a few turns.

12. Remove the bulb with the wiring harness connector and holder from the headlight.



13. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the high beam lamp, remove the holder and replace the lamp.

14. Install the new bulb into the holder, connect the wiring harness connector to the bulb and install the bulb into the reflector.

15. To replace the daytime running light bulb, turn counterclockwise…

16. …and remove the lid.

18. …and remove the socket from the headlight.

19. Remove the baseless lamp from the socket.

20. Insert the new lamp into the socket and install the socket in place.

21. Replace the cover.

For replacement side turn signal lamps perform the following operations.

1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

2. Remove the turn signal lamp from the hole in the wing (see Replacing the side turn signal light).

3. Turn the bulb holder counterclockwise and remove it from the indicator lamp.

4. Remove the lamp from the socket.

5. Insert the new bulb into the socket and the socket into the indicator housing.



6. Install the side turn signal lamp in the reverse order of removal.

To replace any lamps in the rear light perform the following operations.

1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

3. Squeeze the latch…

4. …and remove the lamp mounting board by disengaging its holders from the body of the flashlight.

5. Remove the lamp from the socket.

6. Install the new lamp into the socket.

7. Replace the remaining lamps in the same way.

8. Install the lamp board onto the tail light and the tail light onto the body.

For replacement license plate light bulbs perform the following operations.

1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

2. Remove the light from its socket in the license plate recess of the rear bumper (see Replacing license plate lights)…

3. …and remove the cartridge from the flashlight body.

4. Remove the baseless lamp from the socket.

5. Insert the new bulb.

6. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.

For replacement interior lighting lamps perform the following operations.

1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

2. Detach the lampshade diffuser from the base, overcoming the elastic resistance of the clamps..

3. …and remove the baseless lamp from the socket.

4. Insert a new lamp. Replace the second lamp in the same way.

For replacement glove compartment light lamps perform the following operations.

1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

3. Press the spring contact and remove the lamp.

4. Insert the new bulb.

5. Reinstall the lampshade.

For replacement trunk light lamps perform the following operations.

1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

For replacement lamps in the fog light and turn signal unit perform the following operations.

1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.
