Cigarette lighter, ashtrays (Opel Astra H)

Warning: Ashtrays should not be used solely for collecting ash, and do not contain flammable items!


The ashtray and cigarette lighter assembly for the driver and front passenger is mounted in the lower portion of the instrument panel console below the HVAC control panel (see illustrations 15.1, 17.22) and covered with a decorative lid.

To open the lid, press on it in the marked place - this will open access to the ashtray and cigarette lighter.

The ashtray is closed by pressing the decorative panel until it clicks. The ashtray is cleaned after removing its tray, for which it is necessary to pull it up (see illustration 17.23) disconnect the electrical wiring connectors from the back of the ashtray tray.

To the right of the ashtray, a cigarette lighter is mounted in the console panel (see illustration 17.26). The cigarette lighter can be activated in any position of the key in the ignition switch. To activate the cigarette lighter, simply press its button into the receiving socket until it stops - after the heating element has finished heating up, the button will automatically pop out to its original position.

Caution: Never press the cigarette lighter button with force!


If the cigarette lighter button does not pop out after pressing for a long time, the car should be driven to a service station to eliminate the malfunction. After use, do not forget to return the button to the socket (to avoid clogging the latter). The cigarette lighter socket can be used to connect additional power consumers designed for 12 V and a power consumption of no more than 120 W.

For rear passengers, an ashtray is built into the end wall of the center console (see illustration 17.24) To use the ashtray, press one side of the decorative panel and move it to the position for use.
