On the car models in question, a large fuse (and relay) is placed in the mounting block located on the left under the instrument panel. On Astra models the mounting block is located behind the drawer for small items, the lining of which must first be removed from the panel, after removing the drawer components, pull the bottom of the box in order to bring it to its working position. On Zafira models just open the cover of the mounting block on the instrument panel.

The second fuse/relay mounting box fits in the vehicle's engine compartment and is split and equipped with removable covers.

Each individual fuse is used to protect a specific electrical circuit or several circuits at once. An identification card with a layout of fuses in the mounting block is usually glued to the cover of the latter, from its inside.
The mounting blocks use fuses of a compact design, equipped with bayonet contacts, and, if necessary, easily removed by fingers from their sockets in the block. In case of failure of any of the consumers of electricity, first of all, you should always check the condition of the corresponding fuse. Turn the key in the ignition switch to the ON position and, using a test lamp, probe the open terminals of each of the fuses. If the lamp lights up when connected to each of the terminals, then the fuse is good. If there is voltage only on the power supply side, then the fuse is blown.
We also note that usually the fuse case is made of transparent plastic, through which it is easy to determine the state of the working jumper.
When replacing a blown fuse, make sure that the prepared replacement element matches the type of the failed fuse. Fuses designed for different rated currents may not physically differ from each other in any way, while not being interchangeable. Each of the electrical circuits has different operating parameters and needs a different degree of protection, so replacing a fuse designed for a certain current strength that does not correspond to it in terms of parameters is fraught with the most serious consequences (until the fire). Fuse operating parameters (rated current) are usually marked on its plastic case, in addition, color identification is additionally used (see Specifications).
A special clip can be attached to the inside of the cover of the mounting block, the use of which makes it much easier to remove the fuse.
If the new fuse also fails immediately after installation, it makes no sense to replace it further - first, the cause of the overload in the circuit should be identified and eliminated. In most cases, this is a short circuit of the connecting wiring, caused by damage to its insulation. Spare fuses are usually placed in the free blocks of the mounting block.
On all models of cars considered in this Manual, additional protection of electrical equipment is provided with a maximum of eight main fuses, placed in a separate block equipped with a cover, fixed on the wall of the mounting block placed in the engine compartment.
Knocking out any of the main fuses will cut power to most of the electrical equipment. Always disconnect the battery before replacing the main fuses. Replacement main fuses are always available from the supply department at an Opel authorized workshop.
If the stereo system installed in the car is equipped with a security code, before disconnecting the battery, make sure that you have the correct combination to activate the audio system! Remember that a failed main fuse must be replaced with a replaceable one designed for the same amperage.
