Note: On models with 1.6L and 1.8L engines, the control unit consists of two components: the main control unit and the program memory. Both components can be replaced separately if one of them is found to be defective, however, the source of the problem can only be located using special equipment. available from Vauxhall/Opel car service specialists. On 1.4 liter engines, both components are inseparable, therefore, after detecting a defect, it is necessary to change the entire device.
Removing
The control box is located on the right behind the right footwell/door sill trim panel.
Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Remove the footwell/door sill trim panel as directed in chapter 11.
If required, remove the two nuts, pull the plug connector bracket out of the footwell to provide access to remove the control box.
Find the location of the control box in the footwell.
After removing the mount, lower the bracket and disconnect the plug connector from the control unit (see fig. 4.74).
Remove the control unit from the bracket, noting its location.
On 1.6L and 1.8L engines, the program storage device can be removed from the control box PCB after removing the cover from the back of the box. It is attached with two screws (see fig. 4.75).
Installation
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
