Repair

Visually inspect the distributor cap and rotating cam as described previously.

Installation

Check the sealing ring on the plastic screen and replace it if necessary.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Note, however, that the rotating cam can only be installed in one position. If necessary, turn its sleeve so that the screw holes coincide with the holes in the rotating cam and the end of the camshaft. Check that the high voltage wires are connected correctly.

Twin Cam Engine

Removal

Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

Remove the screws and lift the spark plug cover off the camshaft cover, then disconnect the high voltage wires from the spark plugs and release the wires from the clamp at the bracket located on the end face of the camshaft cover. Disconnect the high voltage wire from the coil. Note the location of the wires for subsequent installation.

Using a Torx socket wrench, remove the three bolts and the distributor cap (together with high voltage wires) from the distributor.

Disconnect the distributor plug.

Unscrew the two bolts securing the distributor to the cylinder head and remove the distributor. Note that the offset pin on the distributor drive engages with the corresponding hole in the end of the camshaft (fig. 5.13 and 5.14).
