There are two microswitches installed on the automatic transmission mode selector. The first of them connects one of the terminals of the locking solenoid to the "ground" when the selector is in the P position (internal switch). The second connects one of the terminals of the automatic transmission control unit to the "ground" with the selector in the P position and the selector lock button against accidental movement not pressed (this is necessary for the operation of the key lock device in the ignition switch).
Note: For clarity, the operation is shown with the selector removed.
Examination
1. Prepare the car for work (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").
2. Remove the floor tunnel lining (see "Parking brake actuator lever - replacement").
3. Using a tester in ohmmeter mode, check the integrity of the two gray wires and the reliability of their connection to the contact jumper and to the contacts of the microswitches.

4. Set the selector to position P and use a tester in ohmmeter mode to make sure that both microswitches are closed (resistance value is minimal).

5. Press the selector lock button, the external microswitch should open (the resistance value is infinitely large). Move the selector to position R, the internal microswitch should open (the resistance value is infinitely large). If this is not the case, the microswitches are faulty and need to be replaced.
Replacement
1. Using a TORX T25 key, unscrew the mounting bolt.

2. We move the microswitch block away from the selector frame and disconnect four connectors from it.

3. Install the parts in reverse order.
