Gas Pedal Sensor — Checking and Replacing (Opel Zafira A)

            0

The sensor informs the automatic transmission control unit that the gas pedal is fully depressed and a special kick-down mode is required for maximum acceleration. Activation of this mode is usually accompanied by a sharp shift of the gearbox down several steps and subsequent upshifts as the engine accelerates occur at the maximum permissible crankshaft speed. If such an effect is not observed, the sensor must be checked.

Sequence of execution

1. Prepare the vehicle for work and install it on an inspection pit or overpass (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").

2. Check the correct adjustment of the throttle cable (see "Throttle Cable Replacement").

3. Disconnect the sensor wiring harness connector.

3. Disconnect the sensor wiring harness connector.

4. Connect a multimeter in ohmmeter mode to the sensor wiring harness block. It should show infinitely high resistance (the circuit is open). We ask the assistant to press the gas pedal all the way down. The multimeter should show the minimum resistance value (the circuit is closed). If this is not the case, the sensor must be replaced together with the cable (see "Throttle Cable Replacement").
