You need a magnet to get the job done.
Execution sequence
1. We prepare the car for work (see «Preparing the car for maintenance and repair»).
2. Remove the rear timing belt cover (see «Camshaft seals - replacement»).
Engines 1.4 and 1.6 DOHC
Engine 1.8 DOHC
Comment. The camshaft bearing caps must be installed in their original places. To facilitate the installation process, the covers are numbered: on the top - on 1.8 DOHC engines, or on the side - on 1.4 and 1.6 DOHC engines.
The intake shaft bearing caps are numbered from 1 to 5, the exhaust - from 6 to 10. The numbering comes from the camshaft pulleys.
4. Remove the camshafts.
5. If the hydraulic pushers are not removed for replacement, we mark their serial numbers.
6. Using a magnet, we remove the hydraulic pushers from the mounting holes.
7. So that dirt does not get inside the hydraulic pushers and does not disable them, lay out the pushers on a clean sheet of paper.
8. Install the hydraulic pushers in reverse order.
Recommendation. Before installing, lower each hydraulic tappet into a container of fresh engine oil. Press the compensator valve several times until air bubbles stop escaping to fill its internal cavity with oil.
9. Install the rest of the parts in reverse order. Bolts of fastening of covers of bearings of camshafts we tighten the prescribed moment (see «Reference data») in that order.
