Recommendation. Since on vehicles with a manual transmission, the hydraulic clutch drive and the hydraulic brake drive are powered from the same tank, when changing the fluid in the hydraulic brake drive, we recommend replacing the brake fluid; fluid and in the clutch release drive (see «Clutch Release Hydraulic - Bleeding»).
To complete the work you will need:
- rubber bulb or syringe;
- transparent vinyl tube with an inner diameter of 4-5 mm;
- special or ring wrenches 9 mm and 11 mm;
- container for draining brake fluid;
- fresh brake fluid recommended by the manufacturer (see «Reference data»);
- manhole or overpass (desirable).
We work with an assistant.
Execution sequence
1. We prepare the car for work (see «Preparing the car for maintenance and repair»).
2. Remove the reservoir cover of the main brake cylinder.
3. Using a syringe or a rubber bulb, we select the working fluid from the reservoir of the main brake cylinder.
4. Pour new fluid into the tank up to the top edge of the tank.
Warning! To prevent air from entering the hydraulic drive of the brake system, when changing the brake fluid, make sure that its level in the reservoir does not fall below the MIN·mark.
5. We pump the contours of the hydraulic drive system (see «Hydraulic brake drive - pumping»). We carry out pumping of each brake mechanism before the start of the release of a new one (lighter) brake fluid from the fitting, periodically checking the fluid level in the reservoir.
6. After replacing the fluid in both circuits, we check the operation of the hydraulic drive and bring the fluid level in the reservoir of the main brake cylinder to normal (see «Checking the levels of technical fluids»).
