To monitor the status of the anti-lock braking system (ABS) a warning lamp is installed on the instrument panel (see «Controls and control devices»). An ABS failure can be caused by a failure of the wheel speed sensors or by a failure of the hydraulic valve block itself. When the ABS malfunction indicator lamp comes on, the brake system remains operational, but braking efficiency is reduced, which is especially dangerous on slippery surfaces. Therefore, in the event of a lamp igniting, it is necessary to contact a service station as soon as possible for diagnosis and repair.
