Heat rating
Depending on the compression and power output, gasoline engines develop quite different temperatures in the combustion chambers. Spark plugs must match them. This property is expressed by the so-called heat rating. Index 8 indicates the temperature that the spark plug can withstand, i.e. is able to remove it without overheating. If the spark plug gives off too much heat, it does not reach the self-cleaning temperature, which means that the hot electrodes of the spark plug can free themselves from soot deposits.
Shape of electrodes
Opel opted for a "front electrode extended forward" in its spark plug testing. The central electrode protrudes from the spark plug body and is also covered by the outer electrode at the front.
Spark plug thread
The screw-in thread should be 19 mm long, which is the longest length offered by the trade. The thread diameter is 14 mm.
The combustion chambers in the engine are shaped to ensure proper combustion of the working mixture. The location and screwing depth of the spark plug play an important role. Therefore, spark plugs cannot be inserted, for example, with two sealing rings.
Spark plugs for Vectra
Opel recommends spark plugs with catalog number 12 14 005 or part number 90 444 723 for 8-valve engines and also for 16V engines. The corresponding manufacturer's designations are:

- Bosch FR 8 LDC
