Electric power windows (Opel Vectra B)

Contents: Malfunctions ⬇ Temporary roadside assistance ⬇
In Vectra with electric windows, their electronic control performs special functions:

The jam protection mechanism during the automatic closing movement stops the glass and lowers it again if resistance is felt at a distance of approximately 20 cm to 4 mm below the window frame (for example, a clenched hand). To disable the jam protection mechanism (for example, when the ride is difficult due to frost) tap the corresponding switch button briefly several times until the glass closes gradually.

Comfortable activation: with the ignition off and the doors closed or with the driver's door open, all windows open and close as often as desired. But if the open driver's door is closed again, the window lift function is blocked from the inside (protection against theft)

Passive child safety for rear windows: This is done by a switch between the left window switches. Pressing forward - the rear windows are no longer operated by the rear switches. Pressing the switch back - the rear windows are operated by the rear switches.

Closing Windows from the Outside: To close the windows from the outside, hold the door key in the "close" position until the windows are closed.

Malfunctions

Electric window lift motors are dismantled in the same way as mechanical window lift motors. Electric motor repair is not provided.

If none of the windows move, or only the front windows, check the corresponding fuse.

If only one window does not work, remove the window switch and check it.

If the switch is OK, remove the corresponding door trim.

Disconnect the wire connector at the window regulator motor and check with a test light to see if there is actually voltage when the window regulator is operated.

If the defect is still not found, the window lift motor is faulty.

On the contrary, if there is no voltage on the engine, you need to check the wire along its entire length or the control unit.

Poor sliding of the glass may be due to the glass guide being jammed in the window.

Temporary roadside assistance

If the window lifter does not work, then, despite this, you should not drive in wind and rain with the window open:

If the switch is faulty, use a piece of insulated wire to short-circuit different contacts on the removed multi-pin connector until the glass rises up.

If this doesn't work, disconnect the wire to the electric motor (there will be no connection with the control unit), run one auxiliary wire from the positive battery terminal and the second wire from the ground to the electric motor and raise the glass.

If the window lift motor is blocked, you can disconnect the window from the window lift with the door trim removed, see the chapter on the body.

Now move the glass up and fix it in this position with reliable adhesive tape (for example, packaging) or a wooden wedge.
