Blocking the car from leaving (Opel Vectra B)

The Vectra is equipped with a vehicle immobilizer. This is an electronic anti-theft device that is activated after the ignition is switched on. The system is based on the so-called on-board transponder. This is a battery-powered transmitter and receiver module in the ignition switch, in the memory of which a hard digital code associated with the car is stored. This code is stored in the memory of an additionally installed vehicle immobilizer control unit. If the code matches, the vehicle immobilizer control unit checks the code of the engine control unit in the next step. In this case, this is a variable code that is re-selected after each engine start by a random number generator in the engine control unit and stored in the vehicle immobilizer control unit. If there is no match between the codes in the engine control unit and in the vehicle immobilizer control unit, the engine is switched off no later than 2 seconds later.

The vehicle's drive-away locking system can be diagnosed using a fault reading device. Therefore, troubleshooting and adaptation of the new engine control unit to the vehicle is only possible in an Opel workshop.

Tip: disconnecting and connecting the battery does not affect the vehicle's departure blocking. After that, the departure blocking mode that existed before disconnecting the battery is set.
