Removing
1. Raise the front of the car and secure it on stands. Set the selector lever to position N. Remove the front wheels and engine mudguard.
2. Drain the gearbox oil.
3. Remove the battery, battery support and starter.
4. On 1.6L engines, remove the ignition unit.
5. Remove the selector cable from the gear selector on the gearbox. Remove the selector cable sheath from the bracket on the gearbox.
6. Disconnect the electrical connectors of the transaxle sensors and switches. Release the wires from the mounting brackets on the gearbox.
7. Disconnect the ventilation hose from the top of the transmission.
8. Remove the oil cooler hoses from the front of the transmission (see fig. Attachment of oil cooler hoses to gearbox on 1.6L engines, pic. The location of the oil cooler hoses on the gearbox on engines 1.8 and 2.0 liters).
9. Close the hoses with plugs.
10. Remove the front suspension lower frame. While doing so, support the engine securely.
11. Remove the internal hinges of the drive shafts from the gearbox and tie them with wire to the body.
12. Unscrew the bolts and separate the left support of the power unit from the front of the gearbox housing.
13. Remove the rubber sheath from the protrusion of the oil pan to access the torque converter mounting bolts. Unscrew the visible torque converter mounting bolt, then turn the engine crankshaft and unscrew the remaining bolts. The 1.6L engines use three bolts, while the 1.8L and 2.0L engines use six torque converter mounting bolts.
14. Move the torque converter along the input shaft to the gearbox housing.
15. Place a jack under the gearbox and raise it just enough so that the weight of the gearbox is supported by the jack.
16. Unscrew bolts of fastening of a transmission to the engine.
17. Move the jack and gearbox to the right and remove the gearbox from the guide pins. Lower the jack together with the gearbox and remove the gearbox from under the vehicle.
Installation
The gearbox is installed in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following points:
- check that the guide pins are in place;
- replace the sealing rings of the drive shafts;
- when installing oil cooler pipes, install new o-rings;
- fill the gearbox with oil.
