Removal and installation of gearbox — removal and installation (Opel Vectra B)

Fastening oil cooler hoses to the gearbox on 1.6L engines

Removal

1. Raise the front of the car and secure it on stands. Set the selector lever to position N. Remove the front wheels and engine splash guard.

2. Drain the oil from the gearbox.

3. Remove the battery, battery support and starter.

4. On 1.6L engines, remove the ignition unit.

5. Remove the selector cable from the gear selector lever on the transmission. Remove the selector cable housing from the bracket on the transmission.

6. Disconnect the electrical connectors of the sensors and switches of the gearbox. Release the wires from the mounting brackets on the gearbox.



7. Disconnect the ventilation hose from the top of the transmission.

8. Remove the oil cooler hoses from the front of the transmission (see Fig. Fastening oil cooler hoses to the gearbox on 1.6L engines, rice. Location of oil cooler hoses on gearbox on 1.8 and 2.0 L engines).

9. Close the hoses with plugs.

10. Remove the lower front suspension frame. While doing this, support the engine securely.

11. Remove the inner joints of the drive shafts from the gearbox and tie them to the body with wire.

12. Remove the bolts and separate the left powertrain support from the front of the gearbox housing.

13. Remove the rubber boot from the oil pan lip to access the torque converter mounting bolts. Remove the visible torque converter mounting bolt, then rotate the engine and remove the remaining bolts. The 1.6L engines use three bolts, while the 1.8L and 2.0L engines use six torque converter mounting bolts.

14. Move the torque converter along the input shaft to the transmission housing.

15. Place a jack under the gearbox and raise it enough so that the weight of the gearbox is supported by the jack.

16. Unscrew the bolts securing the gearbox to the engine.

17. Move the jack and gearbox to the right and remove the gearbox from the guide pins. Lower the jack and gearbox and remove the gearbox from under the car.

Installation

The gearbox is installed in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following points:

• check that the guide pins are in place;
• replace the drive shaft sealing rings;
• when installing the oil cooler pipes, install new sealing rings;
• fill the gearbox with oil.
