Pistons and connecting rods, checking the working clearances of connecting rod bearings (Opel Vectra B)

Identification mark location for identifying connecting rod lower head holes on 1.7L diesel engine

Diesel engine 1.7 l

Three different bearing shells are used to select the operating clearance of the lower connecting rod head bearing. The shells are marked with a color mark on the end of each shell, the thickness of which increases depending on the color in the following order: brown, black and blue. Bearings are supplied in standard sizes only.

If bearings need to be replaced, record the identification mark on the side of each connecting rod. The marks are used to select the correct bearing shell size.

Other engines

On other engines, both standard bearing shells and oversized ones are used after regrinding the crankshaft. The required size of the shell can be determined after measuring the crankshaft journal.
