Steering column — removal and installation (Opel Vectra B)

Removal



1. Remove the steering wheel.

1. Remove the steering wheel.


2. Remove the steering column covers by unscrewing the tilt control arm.

2. Remove the steering column covers by unscrewing the tilt control arm.


3. Remove the two screws from the front of the casing.

3. Remove the two screws from the front of the casing.


4. Remove the three screws from the bottom of the casing.

4. Remove the three screws from the bottom of the casing.


5. Remove the upper steering column cover.



5. Remove the upper steering column cover.


6. Remove the lower steering column cover.

6. Remove the lower steering column cover.


7. Remove the key position indicator from the ignition switch.

8. Remove the turn signal switches and windshield wipers.

9. Remove the ignition switch.

10. Remove the lower instrument panel trim on the driver's side, then remove the air duct connecting the air distributor to the heater.

11. In the driver's footwell, remove the screws and trim to access the steering column support bracket. Remove the lower bolt and upper nuts and remove the support bracket.

12. Mark the position of the intermediate shaft relative to the steering column. Unscrew the clamp bolt and remove the intermediate shaft from the slots on the bottom of the steering shaft.



13. Remove the upper steering column mounting bolts and remove the steering column from the vehicle.

Installation



1. Install the steering column and screw in the steering column mounting bolts halfway.

2. Check that the steering column is installed correctly and tighten the mounting bolts completely.

3. Install the intermediate shaft onto the splines of the steering shaft base. Apply a locking agent to the clamp bolt threads and tighten the clamp bolt.

4. Install the steering column support bracket and loosely screw on the nuts. Apply a locking agent to the bolt threads and secure the steering column support bracket with the bolt. Finally tighten the steering column support bracket mounting nuts.

5. Reinstall the air duct and trim in the driver's footwell.

6. Install the ignition switch.

7. Install the turn signal switches and windshield wipers.

8. Install the steering column covers.

9. Install the steering wheel.
