Removing
1. For easier access to the master cylinder, remove the wiper arms and water deflector panel at the base of the windshield (see related section).
2. Clean the dirt from the outside of the master cylinder and place a rag under it to catch the fluid that will be spilled.
3. Loosen the clamp, then disconnect the master cylinder hose from the reservoir. Seal the opening of the reservoir to minimize fluid loss, then wash spilled fluid from surfaces where it has come into contact.
4. Pull the mounting bracket and separate the hydraulic tube from the front of the master cylinder. Seal the end of the tube and the master cylinder bore to minimize fluid loss and prevent dirt from entering. Install the bracket into the groove of the master cylinder.
5. Working in the cabin, release the mounting brackets (turn them 90°), then remove the hidden dashboard panel on the driver's side. Remove the retainer (press the center pin with a screwdriver, then pull out the outer part of the retainer) and remove the heating/ventilation duct for easier access to the pedal.
6. Pull out the mounting bracket and remove the pusher yoke pin securing the master cylinder pushrod to the pedal, then loosen and remove the cylinder mounting nuts.
7. Return to the engine compartment and remove the vehicle's master cylinder. It may be necessary to detach the brake pipes from the bulkhead to get the required clearance. If the master cylinder is damaged, replace it; rebuilding the block is not possible.
Installation
8. Clean the contact surfaces of the cylinder and baffle, then move the cylinder to the working position.
9. Working in the cabin, align the push rod yoke with the pedal, then install the master cylinder mounting nuts and tighten them with the tightening torque regulated specifications.
10. Apply a little universal grease to the pusher yoke pin, then align the fork and pedal and insert the pin. Attach the stud with the mounting bracket, then install the air duct and lower instrument panel cover.
11. While working in the engine compartment, make sure the clutch tube bracket is in the master cylinder groove and check the condition of the tube O-ring. Place the coupler in working position until the clip clicks, then make sure the tubing is attached securely.
12. Connect the master cylinder tube to the feed tank and tighten the clamp securely.
13. Where removed, install the water deflector panel and baffle seal, then install both wiper arms (see related section).
14. Top up the fluid level in the supply tank and bleed the clutch hydraulic system (see Chapter 2 of this section).
