1. Remove the camshaft sprocket (see chapter 8).
2. Carefully punch or drill two small holes in the gland. Screw self-tapping screws into them and, pulling the screws with pliers, remove the oil seal. Alternatively, gently pry out the oil seal.
3. Clean the gland housing and remove with an emery cloth all scuffs and irregularities that could damage the new gland during installation.
4. Lubricate the sealing lips of the new oil seal with clean engine oil and push it into position using a suitable tubular drift (socket type), resting only on the solid outer edge of the seal (see illustration). Be careful not to damage the lips of the gland during installation. Please note that the edges should be facing inwards.
5. Install the camshaft sprocket as described in Chapter 8.
