Piston N1 is located in front of the right bank of cylinders on the side of the timing belt.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and, if necessary, remove the spark plugs.
2. Remove the outer timing belt cover.
3. Rotate the crankshaft so that the timing marks on the camshaft sprocket point up and line up with the slots in the timing belt cover (indicated by arrows). Follow this procedure as for the right cylinder head (drawing on the left), and for the left (drawing on the right). Each sprocket has two marks. Below is a table on the use of these labels.
4. Align the mark on the crankshaft pulley with the pointer (indicated by arrows) on the oil pump cover. When the marks are aligned, the N1 piston is at TDC on the compression stroke.
