On some cars with engines of the models "13N", "13S", "16S", a US-made Hydramatic hydromechanical gearbox is installed, consisting of an automatic three-stage planetary gearbox and a torque converter. The torque converter is connected to the gearbox by a chain drive. The oil cooler is built into the engine cooling system radiator.

Type: 125 TNM.

Marking:
  • cars with engine "13N": EF;
  • cars with engine "13S": EK;
  • cars with engine "16S": EO.

The selector lever has six positions: P - parking (the transmission brake is on, the engine can be started); R — reverse; N — neutral (engine start possible); D — automatic engagement of I, II and III gears; 2 - automatic engagement of I and II gears; 1 — engage 1st gear.

Automatic gear shifting is determined by the position of the throttle valve and the speed of the vehicle. There is a forced reverse gear shifting system by pressing the accelerator pedal all the way ("kick-down") for maximum acceleration of the vehicle. A special safety device prevents shifting from II gear to I gear by the selector lever if the vehicle speed exceeds the maximum permissible for position "1" of the selector lever, which is 55 km/h for vehicles with engines "13N", "13S" and 60 km/h for cars with the "16S" engine.

Towing a car



If the automatic transmission is in good working order, the vehicle can be towed for a distance of no more than 100 km at a speed not exceeding 80 km/h.



When towing long distances or if the automatic transmission is faulty, the front of the vehicle should be raised.

Torque converter



The torque converter consists of a pump, turbine and reactor, which are the wheels.

Marking:
  • cars with engines "13N", "13S": FAD;
  • cars with engine "16S": FCO (F20)*.

Torque converter transformation ratio:
  • cars with engines "13N", "13S": 2,4,
  • cars with engine "16S": 2.0 (2.5).

Outer diameter, mm: 245.

Clearance between the torque converter mounting pin and the bearing surface of the gearbox housing, mm: 9-10.

*Since model year 1986.

Note: Since the 1985 model year, a pump shaft bearing of a modified design has been installed. The bearing is installed using the KM 596 mandrel.
