Attention: For vehicles with light metal rims, the wheels must be removed when adjusting the play. For vehicles with steel rims, installation is carried out with the wheels not removed.
Raise the vehicle with steel rims until the wheel to be adjusted can turn freely.
For vehicles with light metal rims, remove the wheels.
Crush the wheel cap.
Before checking the bearing play, it is necessary, by rotating the wheel, to make sure that the rotation occurs evenly and silently. If noise is heard during rotation of the wheel or rotation is uneven, remove the hub, clean it and check if the bearing is damaged. Otherwise, replace the bearing.
Remove the hub dust cap with a screwdriver.
Loosen the hub axle nut.
To adjust the bearing, tighten the hub axle nut to 25 Nm. In this case, the wheel must be rotated with the other hand. On vehicles with light metal rims, remove the wheel and rotate the brake drum.
Then loosen the hub axle nut until the shield washer barely moves.
Backlash check
Backlash is checked with a screwdriver. The bearing play is set correctly if the protective washer barely moves when pressed with a finger using a screwdriver.
Attention: In this case, in no case should you apply a rotational or squeezing effect with a screwdriver on the hub.
If the split pin cannot be inserted, tighten the castle nut until the slot and the split pin hole are aligned.
Check if the protective washer moves.
If it does not move, then do not tighten, but loosen the castle nut until the groove and the hole for the cotter pin coincide.
Pin the hub axle nut.
Install the hub dust cap and wheel cap.
On vehicles with light metal rims, install the wheels and tighten the bolts crosswise to 90 Nm. Lower the car.
