Attention: The instructions apply only to the sedan.
Due to the design of the suspension, shock absorbers can only be removed and installed in series.
Removing
Open the trunk, remove the protective cover from the upper stop of the shock absorber. Unscrew the hex nut. If necessary, hold the shock absorber rod with a wrench. Remove cup and rubber buffer.
For vehicles with adjustable ride height
Unscrew the union nut and disconnect the pressure pipe from the shock absorber.
Raise the car.
Slightly jack up the bracket in the area of the shock absorber with a hydraulic lifter to be sure that the spring does not pop out.
Remove the shock absorber hex bolt from the rear suspension bracket.
Remove shock absorber from holder.
If necessary, use the mount.
Installation
Before installation, check the shock absorber, see point 12.4.
Check rubber buffer, replace if necessary. With new shock absorbers, use new buffers.
Install the cup and rubber buffer on the shock absorber.
Attention: Starting with chassis #2503715, a modified cup is used to mount the rear shock absorber. In older cars (sedan only) in case of noise in the area of the rear shock absorber, new cups should be used. The convex side of the cup should be on the side of the shock absorber. In addition, it is necessary to follow the changed adjustable dimension -A-.
Insert the shock absorber into the holder on the rear suspension bracket. If necessary, drive the shock absorber into the holder with a polymer hammer.
Using a suitable punch, fix the shock absorber in the holder and bracket in the correct position.
Lightly drive in the fastening bolt with a polymer hammer until it touches the bracket. Tighten the bolt to 45 Nm.
On vehicles with adjustable ride height, screw on pressure line and union nut to 3 Nm.
Install but shock absorber cup and rubber buffer.
Slowly lower the vehicle so that the shock absorber enters the upper mount.
Install the rubber buffer, cup and hex nut from the trunk.
Set with a hexagon nut dimension A = 8 mm.
Attention: In cars, starting from the chassis under No. 2503715, the installation dimension A = 9 mm.
Vehicles with adjustable ride height
Mounting dimension A = 6 mm.
Pump up the system to a pressure of 80 kPa (0.8 atm).
Put the protective cover on the shock absorber.
