Hood (Opel Astra H)

Set the parking brake, on models with automatic transmission, make sure that the selector lever is in the "P" position. The hood latch release lever handle is located on the left under the instrument panel (see illustrations 4.1 and 15.1). When you pull the lever, the hood should open slightly.



To finally release the hood, go around the front of the car and press the additional lock release lever (see illustration 4.2). After releasing the lock, lift the hood, having first made sure that the windshield wiper arms are not moved away from the glass. The hood is held in the open position automatically, with the help of a gas-filled strut. Before slamming the hood, make sure that you have not left any tools, rags or other foreign objects in the engine compartment.



To close, gently pull the hood down, lower it, leaving a gap of about 20 centimeters, then release it. To check the reliability of the hood locking in the closed position, pull it up by the front edge.

Note: To avoid damaging the paintwork, do not press the loosely closed hood with your hands - the correct way is to open it again and try to slam it shut again by releasing it from a small height.
