The location of the locks of the piston rings of gasoline engines
I - top and bottom sealing rings
II - oil flinger ring
Location of piston ring locks
I - top sealing ring
II - second sealing ring
III - oil scraper ring
Installation
Before installing new piston rings, check the gap in the ring lock.
Position the pistons and piston rings according to the cylinders in which they will work.
1. Install the top o-ring into the first cylinder and push it into the cylinder with the piston crown to the bottom of the cylinder.
Warning! The top and middle sealing rings are different, the outer surface of the middle ring is tapered.
2. Using a feeler gauge, measure the gap in the ring lock.
3. Repeat the measurement process with the ring installed on top of the cylinder and compare the measurement results with the technical data.
4. If the gap is too small, it must be increased by grinding the ends of the ring.
5. If the gap in the ring lock is too large, check the correct fit of the rings to your engine.
6. Repeat the test operation for each ring in the first cylinder and then for the rings in the remaining cylinders.
7. Install the piston rings on the pistons in the same way as when removing.
8. After installing the piston rings on the piston, check the ease of movement of the piston ring in the piston groove and install the piston ring locks.
