Starting the engine after major repairs (Opel Omega B)

            0

1. With the engine installed in the engine bay of the vehicle, check the engine oil and coolant levels. Check that all previously removed wires and hoses are in place.

2. Turn on the ignition and immediately turn the engine crankshaft with the starter (so that the glow plugs don't have time to warm up), until the oil pressure warning light goes out.

3. Start the engine. The engine may take longer than usual to start due to the fuel system being disconnected.

4. With the engine idling, check for fuel, coolant, and oil leaks. At this stage of engine operation, you may notice odor and smoke from hot engine parts as oil that got on the engine during assembly burns off.

5. Allow the engine to idle until the coolant is warm, which can be felt through the upper radiator hose. Then turn the engine off.

6. After the engine has cooled down, check the oil and coolant levels.

7. When installing new pistons, piston rings or crankshaft bearings in the engine, it is necessary to perform the engine break-in during the first 800 km. Do not operate the engine with the throttle valve wide open or under heavy load at low engine speed. It is recommended to change the oil and oil filter at the end of the break-in period.
