2. Add engine oil of the specified type to the upper level mark on the engine oil dipstick.
3. Start the engine and verify that the oil pressure gauge does not indicate low pressure and the low oil pressure warning light to the engine is not illuminated.
4. Pay attention to the presence of noisy operation of valves or knocking sounds.
5. Check for the following:
- Incorrect installation of an oil filter with an o-ring on the cylinder block.
- Diluting engine oil with moisture or unburned fuel.
- Incorrect oil viscosity at a certain temperature.
- Inaccuracy or malfunction of the oil pressure sensor.
- Inaccuracy or malfunction of the oil pressure gauge.
- Clogged oil filter.
- Faulty oil bypass valve.
6. Remove the oil pressure sensor or other plug from the oil gallery of the cylinder block.
7. Install an oil pressure gauge and measure the engine oil pressure.
8. Compare the received values with the specification (see section «Service data and specification» at the end of the chapter).
9. If the engine oil pressure is below specification, check the engine for one or more of the following conditions:
- Correct installation of the oil filter with O-ring on the cylinder block.
- Worn or dirty oil pump.
- Loosening the bolts securing the oil pump to the front cover of the engine.
- Loose, clogged or damaged oil pickup.
- Loss or damage to the O-ring on the oil pump intake pipe.
- Excessive clearance in bearings.
- The presence of cracks, pores or blockages in the oil galleries.
- Loose oil channel plugs in the cylinder block.
- Damage to hydraulic valve clearance compensators.
10. If necessary, repair the problem or replace the components with new ones.
