Attention: The models of cars considered in this Manual are equipped with an additional security system (SRS). Before doing any work near the airbag unit, steering column or instrument panel, turn off the SRS to avoid injury from accidental operation (see chapter 12).
1. Remove the airbag module (see Section 9).
2. Bring the front wheels into a straight line and lock the steering column by removing the key from the ignition.
3. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the horn, and if equipped, from the remote control switches of the infotainment system (see resist. illustration).
4. Using a wrench, remove the bolt securing the steering wheel to the column (see illustration 10.3).
5. Grasping the wheel with your hands on both sides and shaking it from side to side, remove it from the splines of the shaft. After removing the wheel, release the wiring harness from its center hole.
Attention: The use of impacts when removing the steering wheel is not allowed! Do not damage the wiring harness!
6. Before installing the steering wheel, drive and clean the threaded connection, make sure that the wheels of the car are in a straight line.
7. Pass the wiring harness through the steering wheel hub. Put the wheel on the steering column shaft, make sure the marks match (see resist. illustration)
8. Lubricate the new steering wheel mounting bolt with fixing compound (e.g. Loctite 243), screw it in and tighten to the required torque (see specs).
9. Connect the wiring connectors - follow the correct laying of the harness.
10. Install the driver's frontal airbag module (see Section 9).
11. On a level road, check the correct neutral position of the steering wheel, if necessary, reinstall it. Check the operation of the horn and remote control (with appropriate equipment) infotainment system.
