Warning! Before performing any work involving the removal of the airbag modules or the airbag control unit, disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least two minutes before performing any work. This is necessary to allow the airbag capacitor to discharge.
After assembling and installing all parts, when turning on the ignition, you must stay away from the installation areas of the airbag modules to avoid injury if they are deployed.
Removal
1. Prepare the car for work (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").
2. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery and wait at least two minutes for the airbag system capacitor to discharge.
3. Set the front wheels of the car to the straight-ahead position.
Note: The work is shown on the Astra model. On the Zafira model it is done similarly.
4. Using a TORX T30 key, unscrew the two screws securing the airbag module, located in the holes in the rear of the steering wheel (one on each side).

5. Move the airbag module away from the steering wheel, avoiding tension on the wires.

6. Using a thin slotted screwdriver, open the wiring harness connector lock.

7. Disconnect the wiring harness connector and remove the airbag module.

Note: Store the air bag module with the plastic cover facing up to prevent scratching and to reduce the possibility of injury from accidental deployment.
8. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the horn switch.

9. Using a TORX E20 socket wrench, loosen the steering wheel mounting bolt and unscrew it a few turns.

10. Taking hold of both sides of the steering wheel with your hands, vigorously rock it from side to side until the steering wheel comes off the splines of the shaft.
11. Finally, unscrew the steering wheel mounting bolt.
12. Remember the relative positions of the marks, after which we remove the steering wheel from the splines of the steering shaft.

Installation
We install the steering wheel on the splines so that the marks match. We perform further installation of the parts in the reverse order. We apply anaerobic thread locker to the bolts of the airbag module.
