Comment. The work is shown on the example of replacing the left steering tip. The right steering tip is replaced in the same way.
Execution sequence
1. We prepare the car for work (see «Preparing the car for maintenance and repair»).
2. Remove the wheel (see «Wheel - replacement»).
3. We clean the rod and the tip from dirt and process the threaded connection with a penetrating lubricant.
4. With a 21 mm wrench, we loosen the tie rod end locknut, holding the tip from turning with a 14 mm wrench and unscrew the nut a few turns.
5. Using a 19 mm wrench, unscrew the nut securing the ball joint pin of the tie rod end.
Comment. The ball joint pin nut is self-locking and cannot be reused, so it must be replaced during assembly.
6. Install the ball joint puller and press the ball joint pin out of the steering knuckle arm.
Recommendation.
In order to approximately maintain the angle of convergence of the wheels, we mark the position of the tip on the steering rod or, when performing the following operation, we count the number of revolutions made.
When installing the tip, we screw it up to the mark or by the number of revolutions calculated during removal.
7. Using a 14 mm wrench, unscrew the tie rod end, holding the tie rod with a 13 mm wrench.
Installation
Install the parts in reverse order. Tighten the tie rod end locknut and ball joint pin nut to the prescribed torques (see «Reference data»). We check the wheel alignment angles in a specialized workshop.
