Power Steering System — Bleeding (Opel Zafira A)

After repairs involving depressurization of the power steering system, as well as if there is a suspicion of air getting into it, the power steering system must be bled (remove air from it). In the latter case, you should first determine and eliminate the cause of air entering the system and only then begin bleeding.

To perform the work you will need power steering fluid (see "Reference data").

Sequence of execution

1. Prepare the car for work (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").

2. We hang up the front wheels of the car.

3. Check the fluid level and, if necessary, add fluid above the MIN mark.

4. Turn the steering wheel from side to side without starting the engine to fill the system with working fluid.

5. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and, if necessary, add working fluid to the power steering reservoir above the MIN mark.

6. Start the engine and check the fluid level again. If necessary, add fluid above the MIN mark.

7. Bleed the system by turning the steering wheel from side to side, without holding it in extreme positions.

8. Listen to the operation of the power steering pump. The pump should work smoothly and quietly.

9. Set the front wheels of the car to the straight-ahead position. Let the engine warm up to operating temperature and turn it off.

10. Check the working fluid level: the heated fluid level should be near the MAX mark. Add fluid if necessary.
