Steering shaft — replacement (Opel Zafira A)

Replacing the steering shaft is necessary when the cardan joints of the shaft are heavily worn, which leads to increased play in the steering.

Sequence of execution

1. Prepare the car for work (see "Preparing the car for maintenance and repair").

2. Remove the lower trim of the instrument panel (see "Throttle Pedal Replacement").

3. Using a 13 mm socket wrench, loosen the tie bolt securing the steering shaft cardan joint to the steering gear shaft.



4. Compress the telescopic axis of the steering shaft and move the joint from the steering gear shaft.

5. Using a TORX E10 socket wrench, unscrew the tie bolt securing the upper cardan joint of the steering shaft.



6. Move the joint from the steering column shaft and completely remove the steering shaft.





7. Install the parts in the reverse order, making sure that the front wheels and steering wheel are installed in the straight position. Align the groove on the steering gear shaft with the hole and the hinge clamp bolt, and fix the upper hinge along the guides on the steering column shaft.
