Clutch faults (Opel Vectra B)

There is no resistance when pressing the clutch pedal:


  • the clutch cable adjustment mechanism is faulty (cable operated clutch);
  • the hydraulic clutch release system is faulty (hydraulic clutch);
  • bearing or clutch release fork is broken;
  • the diaphragm spring in the clutch pressure plate is broken.

Clutch is constantly engaged:


  • the clutch adjustment mechanism is faulty (cable operated clutch);
  • the hydraulic clutch drive system is faulty;
  • the clutch disc is jammed on the splines of the gearbox input shaft;
  • constant contact of the clutch disc with the flywheel or pressure plate;
  • incorrect assembly of the pressure plate;
  • the clutch release mechanism is worn out.

Clutch slippage:


  • the clutch cable adjustment mechanism is faulty (cable operated clutch);
  • the hydraulic clutch drive system is faulty;
  • excessive wear of clutch disc linings;
  • clutch disc linings are contaminated with oil or lubricant;
  • the pressure plate is faulty or the diaphragm spring is weak.

Intense vibration when engaging the clutch:


  • clutch disc linings are contaminated with oil or lubricant;
  • excessive wear of clutch disc linings;
  • the pressure plate or diaphragm spring is deformed;
  • wear of engine or gearbox mounts;
  • wear of the splines of the gearbox input shaft or clutch disc hub.

Noise when pressing or releasing the clutch pedal:


  • the release bearing is worn out;
  • clutch pedal bushings are worn out;
  • the pressure plate is not assembled correctly;
  • the diaphragm spring of the pressure plate is broken;
  • the clutch disc damper spring is broken.
