Cooling system of a 2.5 liter diesel engine (Opel Omega B)

Thermostat



Removal



Car without air conditioning

1. Drain the coolant into a container.

Warning! It is not necessary to drain the coolant completely. It is enough that the liquid level is below the thermostat housing.


2. Unscrew the upper engine cover and the air intake pipe.

Car with air conditioning

3. Unscrew the fan with the viscous coupling.

3. Unscrew the fan with the viscous coupling.


4. Unscrew the heater pipe (1) on the camshaft drive housing.



5. Unscrew and remove the housing with the thermostat.

6. Remove the seal from the thermostat housing.

Installation



1. Clean the surface in contact with the seal.

2. Replace the thermostat together with the housing.

2. Replace the thermostat together with the housing.


3. Install a new seal in the thermostat housing, install the thermostat in the housing. In this case, the valve (2) for releasing air should enter the guide (1).

4. Screw the thermostat housing with a force of 10 Nm.

5. Screw the heater pipe to the camshaft drive housing.

6. Install the air intake pipe and engine cover.

7. Check the antifreeze properties of the coolant, add coolant and bleed the cooling system.
