Technical characteristics of the ignition system (Opel Kadett E)

The engine ignition system is battery-powered, contact, with a nominal voltage of 12 V. It consists of an ignition distributor, ignition coil, spark plugs and high-voltage wires. The ignition distributor is driven by a bevel gear from the camshaft.

The marks for setting the ignition timing are located on the crankshaft pulley and on the camshaft drive cover.

Distributor



Ignition distributor Bosch, catalog No.0 231 170 339 or Delco-Remy type 3470.271, four-spark, with centrifugal and vacuum ignition timing regulators and a condenser. Direction of rotation is right.
  • Capacitor capacity, μF: 0.17-0.23.
  • Breaker cam angle, deg.: 50±3.
  • Angle of closed state of breaker contacts, %: 56±3.
  • Gap between breaker contacts, mm: 0.4.
  • Initial ignition advance angle before TDC, deg.: 5.

Ignition coil


  • Brand and type: Bosch KW 12 V or Delco-Rerny 12 V DR 502
  • Primary winding resistance at 20°C, Ohm: 1.2-1.6.
  • Voltage in the secondary winding, kV: 12-14.

Spark plugs



Brand and type
  • up to 1987 model year: AC R 42-6 FS;
  • since 1987 model year: AC CR 42 CFS (with copper central electrode).

Gap between electrodes, mm


  • before 1987 model year: 0.7-0.8;
  • since 1987 model year: 0.7.
