Note: Disconnecting the battery in the "P" position of the selector lever will result in the latter being locked. The procedure for unlocking it is given in Chapter "Controls and operating techniques".
1. Move the selector lever in the passenger compartment from the extreme forward position ("P") to the extreme rear position ("D" or "1" - depending on the type of gearbox), and make sure that the successively selected positions correspond to the readings on the display indicating the selected gearbox mode (see Chapter "Controls and operating techniques", Section 16) - if necessary, make the required adjustments (see below).
2. Set the lever to position "P".
3. To gain access to the gear selection cable, remove the battery with the tray (see Chapter 5).
4. Find the support bracket for the gear selection cable on top of the transmission housing and release the end of the latter from it by carefully pulling out the retainer (see accompanying illustration).

5. Make sure that the selector lever is in the "P" position, then turn the actuator lever on the transmission housing forward until it stops, shifting the AT to the "P" position (see accompanying illustration). By snapping the lock, fix the gear selection cable in this position.
