1. From under the differential cover. If there are signs of leakage, the cover gasket must be replaced (see «Gearbox - checking the level and changing the oil»).
2. At the junction of the gearbox with the internal joints of the drives. The presence of traces of oil leakage in these places indicates the need to replace the front wheel drive oil seals (see «Front wheel drive oil seals - replacement»).
3. At the bottom of the junction of the clutch housing and engine block. The presence of traces of oil leakage indicates the need to replace the gearbox input shaft oil seal (see «Transmission input shaft oil seal - replacement») or sealing ring of the clutch slave cylinder housing (see «Clutch release slave cylinder - check and replace»).
4. On the gearshift rod. If there are signs of leakage, the stem seal must be replaced (see «Gland of a rod of the mechanism of a gear change»).
We are convinced of the serviceability and correct adjustment of the clutch release and gear shift mechanisms. To do this, by pressing the clutch pedal, we turn on all the gears in turn, check the ease and clarity of turning them on and off. If necessary, adjust the gearshift mechanism (see «Gear shift lever - replacement and adjustment»).
Comment. To troubleshoot the following problems (if they are found) need to repair the gearbox associated with its disassembly. This requires special equipment and high qualifications, so it is better to entrust the repair of the gearbox to a specialized Opel service.
Set the gear lever to neutral position and start the engine. After pressing the clutch pedal several times, we listen to the sound of the operation of the gearbox bearings. It appears when the clutch pedal is released and disappears when it is pressed. The loud noise of the bearings indicates their wear and the need to disassemble the gearbox and repair it.
We check the operation of the gearbox in motion. We make sure that there are no crunches, knocks and other extraneous sounds during the operation of the box. We check the work of synchronizers. To do this, moving first with acceleration, and then with deceleration, we shift gears with an increase, then with a decrease. Gears should shift clearly and without a crunch, and there should not be spontaneous disengagement of gears when the load changes.
Comment. If a crunch is heard when shifting all gears, then the most likely cause is incomplete clutch disengagement (see «Clutch - condition check»).
